Traverse City Dance Project’s NYC Debut - Press Release

It's the Traverse City Dance Project’s seventh season and NYC debut September 5th at the Muriel Schulman Theater at Triskelion Arts in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The Traverse City Dance Project is a Michigan-based seasonal dance company that was conceived in NYC seven years ago by founders and co-artistic directors Jennifer McQuiston Lott (LA) and Brent Whitney (NYC). They have gathered top dance artists from NYC, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, and Michigan, making it a true tri-coastal endeavor. The company rehearses in LA and NYC, leading up to their summer dance residency in Traverse City, Michigan; during which, they invite the local community into the creative process through workshops, open rehearsals, and innovative performances. Traverse City Dance Project is thrilled and grateful for the opportunity to share this evening of dance, music, and celebrations in New York City for the first time!

The Program

This unique program features a world premiere by Executive/Artistic Director Brent Whitney to Schubert’s mysterious composition Schwanengesang. Artistic Director, Jennifer McQuiston Lott, brings to life a work titled Ariel en pointe, as well as a more grounded duet to diversify the evening’s program. Behind Those Eyes is a new commission by guest choreographer, Austin Reynolds (Detroit, Aspen/Santa Fe Ballet), live music by the multi-instrumentalist Jonny Rodgers, (acclaimed for his skill in playing the glass harp), and performances by avant-garde ensemble Tenth Intervention (Hajnal Pivnik & Dorian Wallace). In addition, the program will feature a piece created by dancer & choreographer Jakevis Thomason and internationally-acclaimed drummer Ian Chang. They are the first recipients of Traverse City Dance Project’s choreographic fellowship #Pairings. The fellowship aims to connect emerging choreographers and composers by providing artists the time, space, and funds to create new works with the TDCP dancers. For dance and music lovers alike, this one is not to be missed!
