Land Acknowledgment & Cultural Respect

The Traverse City Dance Project recognizes and honors the Anishinaabe—the Three Fires Confederacy of the Ojibwe, Odawa (Ottawa), and Potawatomi peoples—on whose ancestral lands our housing, rehearsal, and performance spaces reside, as ceded in the Washington Treaty of 1836.

We acknowledge the deep and enduring relationship the Anishinaabe have with the lands now known as Leelanau County and Grand Traverse County. By recognizing this history, we affirm Indigenous sovereignty, honor cultural traditions, and express gratitude for the land and community in which we live and work.
