July 18-August 14, 2016

10 dancers. 5 choreographers.

3 weeks. 4 performances.

1 great city.

A note from the Artistic Director.

We are preparing for another great season in Traverse City! More performances, more opportunities to interact with great dance - and even learn some new moves for yourself!

For our 2016 season, the Traverse City Dance Project will tackle Ligeti Essays, a modernist classic by iconic choreographer Karole Armitage. Known as the "punk ballerina," Armitage's unique style draws from Balanchine, street dance, club culture. Ligeti is a gorgeous piece, stark and fresh, and a fantastic showcase for our talented artists. Staged by celebrated ballerina Megumi Eda, this work is a definite crowd-pleaser.

We are proud to present another work by playful powerhouse choreographer Mauro de Candia, a spirited men's duet.

Once again, Brent and I are creating new works with new music. Brent is collaborating with NYC-based composer Dorian Wallace on an exploration of the web series "The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows”.

As for me, I am embarking on a 2-year project with a new score by Son Lux, a stunning piece of music created for the enigmatic chamber ensemble yMusic. The piece will premiere this season as a dance work. By next season, it will have evolved! Look forward to film, projection, and some exciting surprises as I explore ways of putting dance on your screens, in your hand, and all around you!

We also bring back our Apprentice Program, to mentor and coach talented local dance students. Apprenticeships are a key component of any young dancer’s progression towards a professional career, and we are thrilled to be offering this unique opportunity to students in the Traverse City area. Some of these lucky students may even perform onstage with the company! Click HERE for more information/application.

We can't wait to hit the shores of Lake Michigan again. Join us for a summer of DANCE...
